how do people find these cool new beta sites like yotify and twitter and things like that? Do they just know the right people?

I think its part of the social network experience. I got the one here from Blogers Blog cause I follow them on twitter. Also things like stumble and following tech blogs in your RSS. Its how I found Fire Eagle.
